Describes apparatus and systems adopted in recent railway substations incorporating noncombustibility, noise suppression, compactness, safety measures and reliability. Power rectifier diodes and circuitry are discussed along with various cooling systems. Types of enclosed switchgear are discussed and compared. The design and operation of a power control system is also discussed. A circuit diagram of a typical DC railway substation is presented.
