A.P. Rowe in his book 'One Story of Radar' wrote 'For me the joker in the pack of T.R.E. devices was Oboe, through it played the part of an ace'. Later he wrote 'There was no doubt about the enthusiasm of Reeves and of his right-hand man F.B. Jones and the small team they built around them. For them T.R.E. was Oboe and the war was Oboe'. In his book 'Bomber Offensive' Marshal of the R.A.F. Sir Arthur Harris writes 'Bomber Command's main offensive began at a precise moment - the moment of the first major attack on an objective in Germany by means of Oboe'. All this was in sharp contrast to a minute which appears on a Heardquarters file written by Professor A.O. Rankine, F.R.S., during the time the principles of Oboe were being formulated which concluded 'if I could find the man responsible for this fantastic Oboe I would sack him so that his vain imaginings would waste not only his own time but those of others'.
