This paper describes how NAVSSES uses the Navy's 3-M system to provide the recorded maintenance history of all types of ship systems equipment. The flow of MDS data from the ships to NAVSSES is illustrated. The procedure for ordering the maintenance history is outlined. Reliability/maintainability/availability figures of merit are presented and discussed. The use of maintenance history in determining failure trends and modes is described.
