Guidelines are presented for designing combat resilience into military systems to permit battle damage assessment and repair to be made on the battlefield by expedient means. The thoughts and suggestions are based on the experience gained while preparing the first Battle Damage and Repair (BDAR) Manuals pulished by the Army. It coalesces all the ideas of the many individuals who were active in those early BDAR activities. Some suggestions are made as to how the engineering community can help advance the concept.
