An annular slot antenna is investigated by means of two different approaches. The former is based on an integral equation derived by the equivalence principle and permits an accurate evaluation of the e.m. characteristics of the antenna; the latter is based on an equivalent network, which lends itself to fast design being easily implementable on a desk computer. The electromagnetic properties and the thermic behaviour of the antenna, used as an applicator for hyperthermia, have been tested with experimental data.
