The first selection made was the frequency of the power that will be transmitted and supplied to the users on the station. This frequency ranged from 0 Hertz (Hz) for direct current (DC) to 20 Kilohertz (kHz) alternating current (AC). This decision evolved into a multi-faceted problem which included such items as AC versus DC, local distribution systems versus one common distribution system, user accommodations, international module distribution, and international interfaces. This paper will include the details of this decision and the impacts it has made or will make on the user community. At present the selection process for the power system is in full swing. The various options that are being considered will be detailed and the current stage of the selection will be presented in the paper and updated at the conference. The options that are being considered include the following: 1. Photovoltaic (PV) a. Batteries - NiCd or NiH2; b. Regenerative Fuel Cells (RFC); 2. Solar Dynamic (SD) a. Brayton; b. Organic Rankine. In summary the current status of the power system selection will be presented along with an evaluation of the process and system. The impacts on the station will be evaluated and described.
