Concurrent transmission of digital, and video information on a single fibre medium in the electrically and environmentally harsh conditions of an icebreaker class of ship is discussed. The ramifications of installing fibre optic communications media in ships are reviewed. The method of assessing the quality of the target installation is explained and a rationale for the chosen test methods are provided.
