The possibility that our next conflict will involve the use of Chemical Weapons is estimated by intelligence sources to be high. In view of this, the military protects its personnel with a variety of 'Chemical Ensembles' designed to fit the mission of the individual using it. The performance limitations imposed by the use of the ensembles are not well understood. The Logistics and Human Factors Division of the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory (AFHRL) has initiated a program which observe aircraft maintenance personnel performing tasks in the ensemble. The objective of the program is to determine aircraft maintenance capabilities in a chemical environment by looking at human factors problems associated with performing maintenance while wearing the ensemble.
