An anti-vibration platform is described in which a load is suspended between two magnetic mounts and subjected to a linear acceleration in the vertical axis. Each mount comprises a rare-earth permanent magnet creating flux in a mild steel magnetic circuit, together with two coils to control the flux in the air gaps. Frequency response results show the advantages of the device as a vibration isolator compared to passive mounts. The excitation of angular oscillations at certain frequencies demonstrates the need for angular feedback between individual mounts. An adaptive type control system is proposed.
