Spectroscopic measurements have been performed on muzzle flash plasma. Peak light outputs in the megawatts/steradian range have been observed. The dominant atomic species has been identified as rail material (copper). The observed line radiation character of the spectra suggests that a corona model should be used for estimating density and temperature.
