The approximate expression for the output SNR for a rectangular shaped Applebaum type array has been obtained in terms of the signal distance and signal direction. It has been shown that this expression is consistent with the actual simulated value. It has also been shown that the rectangular arrray performs better than the linear array when the total number of array elements are the same. A simple expression was found to determine the approximate 1 dB degradation distance. We found this distance varied with two dimensional signal direction changes.
