This paper has briefly described the futuristic direction of the Air Force program in addressing the emerging needs for space high power technology. There are good reasons to believe that evolutionary missions will grow from current 2 KWe, 5-10 years life to 5-15 KWe, 5-10 years life over the next decade. Revolutionary missions will also require time variant short duration burst high power at fractions of a MWe to 100s of MWs. Technology thrusts that 'could make a difference' have been identified for baseload and above-baseload operational modes. Finally, rapidly evolving technology and revolutionary system concepts make assessment of specific power technology needs challenging.
