Design, analysis and test considerations for compatibility in power systems are discussed. The role of source impedance in evaluating bus noise voltage based on conducted emission current measurements, and bus transient voltage based on transient currents is of primary importance. The effects of fault-clearing current on the bus and in-rush current on fuses are included. Design features for reduced coupling due to cable-to-cable and cable-to-ground proximity are presented. Also related are load filtering needs and requirements not covered by MIL-STD-461. Computer simulation and test experience examples are used.
