The development of effective distributed computers has been a limitation in implementation of large-scale systems. Problems associated with distributed computers include communication, information management, decentralization of control, load sharing, et. al. Serious attempts are now being made to apply control theory to improvement of the performance of the distributed computer as a system component. New design techniques for the development of the distributed computer controller must consider two aspects of the problem that are apparently unique to distributed computer controllers. These are increased processing capacity versus cost of control, and synchronization of control actions.
