Ada has turned out to be not such a villain as was originally thought. It is certainly true that the language has many points in its favor, and the biggest problem to present and potential users is in the revalidation processes that are required every twelve months. Ada has been compared to a moose - something that could only have been designed by committee, too clumsy to be practical. This does not necessarily make the language undesirable, but there is a lot of low-key laughing every time another Ada spec update takes place and another 'helpful' feature is added and the whole thing looks even more lumbering and gawky than before. In all, it must be said that standardization is necessary to the industry, and no one has argued against continuity. It has also been noted that no matter how good anything is there are always those who, without cause, resist change. Regardless of the prevailing attitudes, the DOD has forged ahead, and it looks like for the present, and probably for the next five to seven years, DOD will have its way.
