Customer consensus following a system failure is best obtained if the contractor uses a structured approach with all available facts to demonstrate an acceptably low failure risk assessment for a recommended course of action. This paper discusses a decision making method that can be used by the contractor's product assurance management in influencing the decision process with the customer. It was discusses a method of significantly assisting management decision making as to what course of action to follow if a failure event situation were to occur. The method focuses on quantifying the risk assessment and cost of various options rather than relying on subjective reasoning. The presentation of this type of information to the customer facilitates in obtaining consensus on a preferred alternative and also enhances the spirit of customer contractor cooperation.
