Presently two competitive techniques or implementations are applied for realization of beamformers in sonar systems, namely: digital beamforming and analog beamforming. Analog beamformers have many advantages with respect to analog implementations, but require high sampling rate of input data - i.e. high speed ADC's - in order to form multiple synchronous beams. To alleviate this difficulty different designs of interpolation beamformers were proposed, however this approach increase substantially processing complexity. By this reason further research on analog beamformers design and their potentialities is still desirable. This paper presents an analysis of the analog phase-shift beamformer in respect to the influence of finite duration of received signal envelope on the system performance.
