This paper has discussed some of the automation philosophy and design requirements of a space station power subsystem from the perspective of the space station automation characteristics. The following design guidelines are offered for reference to the power subsystem designer as he proceeds with the design of the space station power subsystem. Interactions of subsystem functions and requirements impose design constraints on the power subsystem design. Evolutionary requirements pose system design requires that may cause a penalty on the initial station in order to provide for economical capability growth. Power control system automation techniques must be compatible with the space station data system.
