Television format imaging devices are major subsystem of numerous military fire control systems that function as optical trackers. Beyond the sensor, fundamental components consist of optics, stabilization platform, and video processing electronics optimized to respind to the electromagnetic radiation produced by the target and its background. This paper presents a conceptually simple hardware/software scheme for improving the system horizontal resolution by a simple modification of that portion of the video processing electronics that functions as the imaging automatic tracker electronics. The baseline system described here was tested in the live TOW firings at the U.S. Army's MICOM Test Range in 1981.
