A modified F-16 fire control radar adapted to and integrated with a tactically deployable tethered aerostat platform can provide a low cost, highly effective solution to the high speed, low altitude interceptor problem. Such a system can overcome terrain masking and earth's curvature, provide local surveillance, and alert/cue weapons systems towards these penetrators in time to prevent them from executing weapon delivery. An aerostat is any aerodynamically shaped airborne vehicle that derives its lifting potential by containing a gas which is lighter than air. This definition then includes powered airships, both rigid and non-rigid, and tethered balloons. In the context of this paper, an aerodynamically shaped tethered balloon filled with helium will be considered an aerostat.
