This paper provides a summary of the aircraft-store electrical interoperability problem and why the Air Force and Navy have undertaken a major effort at enhancing electrical interface compatibility. The approach to this enhancement through interface standardization is described, the key components of the AEIS Standard are discussed, and the benefits and payoffs from interface standardization are enumerated.
