MATE System unscheduled maintenance consists of modular asset replacement, i.e., repair by replacing test replaceable units (TRUs) and/or shop replaceable units (SRUs) at the test station assembly level. Fault detection and isolation to theses assets is provided by a hierarchy of MATE maintenance-oriented tests. MATE system scheduled maintenance consists of simple normal automatic test equipment (ATE) preventive maintenance actions, but has the advantage that scheduled maintenance calibration is performed at the test system interface utilizing the Air Force Aerospace Ground Metrology Center Portable Automatic Test Equipment Calibration (PATEC) concept. These MATE concepts overcome calibration and other problems experienced in prior automatic test systems. The MATE System maintenance-oriented tests are shown to consist of a synergistic usage of the MATE unscheduled and scheduled maintenance approaches developed to provide computer-aided integrated diagnostic testing. The elements of these integrated diagnostic tests are: continuous status monitoring, confidence test, TRU built-in test and fault isolation to the SRU or other replaceable item, two levels of station self-test at the station input/output (I/O) test interface, on-station calibration of non-core and core assets at the station interface, and integrated diagnostic supplemental manual test procedures as may be required to complete the fault isolation. Examples of quantifications and implementations from the initial application goals of the Air Force MATE System are provided.
