The primary change in DOD procurement specifications after 1985 shall be the insistence upon a digitized deliverable produced with associated multi-media output capability. NTIPS planning for procurement after 1985 embodies a number of radical changes associated with the fundamental change in the nature of the deliverable medium: technical information (TI) shall embody the formerly segregated areas of technical publications, technical training, maintenance requirement cards, and test program instructions; technical information shall be procured according to the nature of the task or of the equipment rather than by 'the page', a unit distinction that does not exist in the digitized world; technical information shall be formulated directly from Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems rather than going through a series of preliminary iterations; technical information will be a product output by the ATE station itself, as the technical information delivery device must be embedded in or have a direct interface with the ATE that it supports; technical information will be procured by a central management team to avoid redundance and other problems.
