JTF-LOCE is the first phase of a carefully planned effort to help speed perishable field intelligence to field commanders while it is still usable. The first installations will support NATO's tactical commanders in their efforts to counter air/land battle threats. The LOCE system interfaces directly with theater and tactical sensor systems, correlates their reports, and develops a multisource, threat data base as well as a comprehensive picture of the battlefield. It gives all commanders immediate access to the same up-to-date information. LOCE is the first field application of the data fusion technology developed in the Joint Tactical Fusion Program. JTFP earlier resulted in test-beds designed to meet the operational support requirements of NATO commanders. Experience gained from field operations with LOCE will be invaluable for the future development of even more sophisticated systems, such as the Army's ASAS (All Source Analysis System) and the Air Force's ENSCE (Enemy Situation Correlation Element).
