The following conclusions may be drawn from the experience gained during this project: - the greatest benefit gained from the introduction of microprocessor control proved to be the ease with the system parameters could be changed. Despite the initial problems, it proved much quicker and cheaper to arrive at the ideal settings than with the previous designs. There was no need to make compromises due to time or the limitations of the mechanical linkages. - as a direct result of the above, more time was available for refining the system, such as introducing extra functions for driver comfort: e.g. more choise of in-car humidity level - the project was a good example of cooperation between an industrial concern, such as Delanair, and a specialist semiconductor manufacturer, such as Fairchild. Delanair contributed their great expertise in automotive air-conditioning system design whilst Fairchild contributed their knowledge of programming and interfacing to the F3870.
