The life cycle of the software for a spacelab experiment is presented. Starting with the software requirements which seem to by typical for Spacecraft experiments the software development tools used in this project are presented: the Program Design Language PDL for design, the real time language PEARL for programming and a powerful debugging system, which can be used for test and operation of the complete experiment. An implementation of the compiler and real time operating system is demonstrated resulting in very efficient object code. The major advantages during the specific project are summarized.
