After a brief overview on the electronic systems and subsystems, being used or going to be used in cars and of their need as for sensing, it is pointed out the convenience in using thick film technology because of the satisfactory results in reliability and costs provided by this technology in the hybrid circuits for cars. Description is made of some sensors manufactured with thick films, starting from those using thick film potentiometers and among them the mass-air-flow sensor. After some remarks on thick film temperature sensors, some details are given on the two types of pressure sensors made by thick films, one of capacitive type, the other using piezoresistive screened resistors. Consideration on possible future thick film sensors for automotive use conclude the paper.
