A method to estimate the detecting reliability and tracking conditions is presented in this paper. By this method, a picture tracking system can estimate whether the target is successfully tracked or not, and whether the target is detected correctly or not, using some parameters computed with the detecting algorithm. A computer simulation of the picture tracking system was done with several sequences of frame which were generated by superimposing a moving target on a picture of cloud and that of home. Total correct probability of estimation was 83.5 %. Especially, the correct probability was 94.1 % when the actual condition was good. It was confirmed that the detecting reliability and tracking condition could be estimated correctly by this method.
