With the proliferating growth in new electric and avionic technologies, there is an apparent and positive trend towards all electric technologies in future advanced aircraft. The operational time phase of such an aircraft is speculative, particularly as the change will be evolutionary, but it seems a reasonable premise to assume that the maturation of the All Electric Airplane could take place in the 1990s. The main subject of this paper is that the All Electric Airplane (AEA) foreshadows the need for electric power generation systems and electric load utilization systems that are markedly different from present aircraft that now use engine bleed air, hydraulics, pneumatics, and conventional electrics. This paper addresses the changes incident upon the replacement of multiple power systems now in conventional aircraft and examines the loads for their impact on the performance, weight, and development/supporting costs of the AEA.
