The San Marco D/L (SMD/L) spacecraft is a scientific satellite to be launched from the Italian Equatorial Range, located in Kenya, by the end of this year. This spacecraft is a result of a joint program between NASA and Centro Ricerche Aerospaziali (Italy), with the participation of DFVLR (Germany). This note describes the design criteria related to the telemetry and command systems of the SMD/L as well as their characteristics and modes of operation.
