Optimal design strategies combined with improved snubber and drive circuits have been used to improve efficiency of high-power converters. Extensive data illustrating the capabilities of buck regulators have been presented. It is suggested that buck regulators outperform transformer-coupled circuits for duty factors above 15 %. Similar optimization of a transformer-coupled circuit could refine this estimate.
