This article describes the features and operation of various sensors and actuators used in microcomputer controlled vehicle and engine control systems. Discussed are a semiconductor pressure sensor, hot wire type mass air flow sensor, photoelectric type crank angle sensor, magnetoresistrictive type knock sensor, idle speed control valve and a speed sensor using microwave doppler radar.
