This article describes an automatic diagnostic system for on-vehicle components of automotive ignition, charging, starting and electronic fuel injection systems. Also described is the methodology for determining the cause(s) of system malfunctions by analyzing the phenomena of failures in on-vehicle components. More precisely, voltage, current and waveform data in every important part of the above mentioned systems are received and processed by a microcomputer. From this the source of the malfunction is analyzed, with the diagnostic results printed out along with related measuring data. 36 diagnostic messages and six caution messages are provided in this equipment.
