The avionics component duty cycle and temperature limits, together with sustained high-velocity flight, result in the requirement for an avionics Environmental Control System (ECS) for the Propulsion Technology Validation (PTV) Advanced Strategic Air Launch Missile Program. The ECS must provide cooling during the three modes of missile operation: ground, captive, and free flight. Important considerations are the configuration, operational modes/pressure budget, avionics (component and coldplate) and analytical models results, as well as applicable tests and analyses. This paper covers these aspects through evidence gained in support of the design of ECS for the ASALM PTV Program.
