This paper provides an overview of the KC-135 Avionics Modernization Hot Bench (AMHB). The objective of the AMHB is to support conceptual definition of a representative KC-135 modernized avionics system. The representative avionics architecture chosen incorporates the MIL-STD-1553 Bdata bus and the MIL-STD-1750 AN/AYK-15A avionics processo r. The Mission Management Software, i.e., OFP, is written in JOVIAL J73 (MIL-STD-1589B). The KC-135 AMHB is composed of the Mission Management Software which controls the avionics system, real and simulated avionics subsystems, an external environment simulation capability, and an AMHB performance monitor capability. This paper describes all four AMHB components with particular emphasis on the Mission Management Software which includes flight plan management, guidance and performance management, navigation, cockpit management, resource management, and backup functions.
