This paper outlines part of a study which was a follow-on from the 'Future Transport Fuels' report (Chapman et al (1)). In general, the study confirmed the energy system advantages of having electric vehicles. In particular, a more detailed analysis was made of the way electric vehicles would interact with the electricity system. It was found that the summer peak in transport demand could mirror the winter peak in other electricity demands and so lead to a nearly flat demand pattern throughout the year.
