The Naval Ship Engineering Center has been involved in the ultrasonic wall thickness inspection of shipboard equipments for several years. The purpose of these measurements has been to ensure the structural integrity of select shipsystems components. Recently, a test program was conducted to explore the variability of ultrasonic wall thickness measurements associated with shipboard seawater piping system components. Measurements taken during the test were performed by NDT-trained hull technicians.
