In an earlier issue the background to the Microwave Landing System (MLS), which will eventually replace the Instrument Landing System (ILS), was outlined. The present article briefly updates the background and describes the ground equipment for the Doppler MLS submitted by the UK to ICAO for adoption as the international standard.
