This paper describes the state-of-the-art design advances for modern L-band long range (200 nautical miles) Air Route Surveillance Rdar (ARSR) which is implemented for up-to-date en-route air traffic control. The new ARSR system design is aimed at improving target detection, assuring low false-alarm output and reducing system downtime, which are essential factors in an en-route automatic air traffic control system. The design concepts and performances, achieved for the major new technologies such as digital moving target indicator, dual beam antenna, digital CFAR receiver, RF STC and range azimuth gating, are discussed.
