The Type 961 prototype cars are operated and controlled by means of the ATOMIC 3 (Automatic Train Operation by Minicomputer) system using the Hitachi Control Computer 350L. The ATOMIC 3 system is designed chiefly to mitigate the burden of the train crew, improve the quality of operation, monitor the operation of the cars devices, and to automate emergency measures.
