The automatic conflict alert capability requires no additional hardware. When an NASIBM-9020 computer detects that two or more aircraft appear likely to violate radar separation standards at any point during the next 2 min., the altitude-identity tags of the involved aircraft will automatically begin to blink on the displays of the controller(s). A special tabular display will show the identity of the aircraft involved in the conflict. An aircraft was sent to the test area to conduct a wide variety of intentionalco nflict missions, to test the ability of the developed software to handle all possible threat situations, head-on and overtaking situations as well as cross-over and climb/descend type encounters.
