Remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs) are expected to play a major role in electronic warfare, much as reconnaissance drones contributed significantly to the gathering of strategic photo reconnaissance and electronic intelligence data over the past eight years. They could be invaluable in assisting and protecting manned tactical aircraft, performing such essential chores as chaffseeding and support jamming in high-attrition environments where men and expensive aircraft need not to be risked, complementing piloted aircraft operations, permitting theater commanders to reserve manned aircraft mission where man's presence in the cockpit may be indispensible.
