Us least week moved forcefully toward formulation of its policy for a global maritime satellite communications service and the establishment of an operational ship-satellite-shore system by a private US communications carrier under contract by the Navy Dep. The capacity of this system ("GapSatCom") could become available for an international merchant marine system in 1976 then the Navy/Air Force advanced technology Fleet-SatCom system, being developed by TRW-Systems, is scheduled to start operations.
