In research of tactical remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs) Lockheed has built an aircraft as a testbed which is intended to be able of operating in the simulated battlefield environment of the tactical commander who wants realtime surveillance. The aircraft is not intended to represent an optimum configuration. The RPV would get close to important targets and acquire realtime imagery that would be relayed back to local commander. The payload, which essentially would replace the pilots's eyes could include such sensors as low-light-level TV and forward-locking infrared.
