Initial pictures secured by RCA return beam vidicon cameras were transmitted by Nasa's Earth Resources Technology Satellit (ERTS) less than 2 days after its launch into polar orbit, July 23. Informations wanted by such satellites are for purposes of agriculture, forestry, geology, geography, hydrology, oceanography and ecology.
