Circuit printed on alumina substrates are used for voltage regulation and in contactless electronic ignition. The substrate market for such purposes is estimated. A zirconia-based oxygen sensor for measuring exhaust gas composition is described. Strain gauges fixed to a thin alumina substrate serve for measuring pressure in an instrument developed by Fiat. They also developed an ultrasonic air-flow meter described.
