The paper presents an automated shape optimisations system and illustrates its applications in two case studies. The system integrates a unique parametric design tool for offshore structure hulls with numerical hydrodynamic analysis of seakeeping characteristics. A library of optimisation algorithms is provided which allows the fine-tuning of already good designs to new constraints as well as performing larger scale studies for new concepts. The case studies provide examples of single and multi-objective optimisation of a semisubmersible with respect to seakeeping capability and payload capacity. Improvements in the applied design criteria have been achieved in all cases.
