Flat-chine wedges are very popular for planing craft. The edge shape of wedges has a significant effect on lift force, drag force and the dynamics of vessel in sea waves. This study focuses on the lift force of flat-chine wedges. In this study, the effects of flat-chine on 20°, 25° and 30° wedges in water entry problem are investigated by both experimental and numerical methods. Initially, experiments by the drop test are conducted as the benchmark test for the evaluation and parameter settings of the numerical method. Additionally, the approved numerical method is used to calculate the pressure and lift force of flat-chine wedges at a constant speed and wet-chine condition. The study shows that flat-chine wedges in comparison with ordinary-chine wedges have two pressure peaks. The additional peak causes a significant increase in the lift force. As the width of flat-chine increases, the lift force also increases.
