The paper describes the introduction of parking charges on a university campus. As a result, students and staff either paid for a permit, parked on a suburban street, or used another from of transport. Students as a group had much less chance of finding a parking space on campus than staff. The elasticity of demand for car parking was ‐0.18 for fulltime undergraduate students and ‐0.22 for staff. The revenue raised was applied to some capital items for the parking scheme. In later years more funds should be available for parking and transport improvements.
