Hawser single point moored (SPM) shuttle tankers are widely used in various offshore oil development system. In this paper, the experiment of 1:40 shuttle tanker model with hawser SPM system in irregular waves is carried out. The effects of loading status, wave parameters, hawser line length and stiffness on the motion response of the shuttle tanker are investigated, including the amplitude, frequency and trajectory of the shuttle tanker. Meanwhile, the influences of hawser length and stiffness on the hawser line tension have also been analysed. Then based on the experimental results, some suggestions for the design of hawser SPM system of the shuttle tanker are given.
